McCray stood on the bridge behind the Carl House, eagerly waiting to catch his first glimpse of his bride. He took a deep breath and closed his eyes, listening to the excited chatter of the bridesmaids as they ushered Lauren out the back door. She strode confidently into the cold afternoon air and called out, "McCray, I'm so excited! I'm not nervous at all, because you're my best friend!" McCray began to tear up as Lauren walked up behind him and wrapped her arms around him. When he turned around, his admiration was written all over his face. His eyes grew wide and his mouth fell open as he took in the sight of his lovely soon-to-be wife. He pulled her close and whispered, "I'm so ready. I'm ready for it to be us. Just me and you." My clients are wonderful people, y'all. They're warm, kind, and affectionate. They believe in treasuring their family and close friends. They believe in the vows that they make, and they understand that living by the words that they proclaim is going to require work. Staying married is a challenge. You have to make a conscious effort every day to choose love. Couples like McCray and Lauren fill me with so much hope. Hope that there are others out there who believe that marriage is worth fighting for. Hope that a new generation of children will have the opportunity to grow up in strong and loving families. Hope that the images that I capture for them will become more meaningful with each passing year.
McCray and Lauren, thank you for inviting me into your lives and for renewing my hope. I wish you two a lifetime of joy and adventure together!
Now these three remain: Faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love.
