Where I am and where I’ve been

I promise that I’ll be posting more images from Jonathan & Lora’s wedding in the next few days, but first I wanted to give you a little glimpse into the adventures that have kept me away from this blog over the last two weeks. I am often asked why I decided to join a sorority, and the next few images are a perfect portrayal of my response. On bid day, when the girls who went through recruitment finally find out that they get to be an Alpha Gam sister, they are joined by a few sisters who walk them across campus to their new house. As soon as these girls round the corner of 5th street and Fowler, our front lawn explodes with cheers and clapping. Once they are safely across the street, they start running. When they reach the Alpha Gam house, they are at once embraced and celebrated, and while there are a few familiar faces they see, most of these women are complete strangers to them. That’s the best part of sisterhood. You don’t have to know someone’s name to know that the two of you are united by a common purpose and to know that you are loved and accepted.

Alright, all mushiness aside, here are a few more of my favorite photos. You may recognize this fabulous lady from a session I did last March of her and her boyfriend. She is one of my closest friends and a total whiz when it comes to sniffing out grammatical errors for our college paper!

Now, without further ado, I present to you the new Alpha Gamma Delta pledge class of 2008! (If you think this is a big group, you should see all of us together!)

Finally, here are the ladies that have made my experience at Alpha Gam so amazing: my pledge class sisters of 2005!

Brandon & Kathryn { Carrollton, GA }

I love having the opportunity to shoot alongside other photographers. It’s even cooler when I get to shoot alongside a fellow Yellow Jacket! Tim and Jessie, two super fun photographers and Georgia Tech grads, had originally planned on just being part of Brandon and Kathryn’s bridal party. However, when their search for a photographer didn’t go so well, Tim stepped up and offered to photograph the wedding AS WELL AS be a groomsman. That’s a big job for one person! So he asked if I would come along and step in for him when he couldn’t shoot. I had so much fun getting to know Tim and his wife Jessie, as well as celebrating Brandon and Kathryn’s wedding with them.

The ceremony took place at Trinity Baptist Church and the reception was at Sunset Hills Country Club. Both of the locations were beautiful and full of large windows, which provided lots of natural light inside. The flower arrangements were really important to Kathryn, so they decided to splurge and go all out! All of the arrangements were elegant and colorful, a combination which I absolutely love.

I started out the day photographing the guys. These guys were such a fun group, and they were up for pretty much anything! I love when the bridal party just loosens up and lets me play. Not only do they get to enjoy the photographs more, but I get to be more creative!

After I finished up with the guys, Tim and I joined the girls for some getting ready photos. Kathryn was an absolutely radiant bride, and once she put on her dress, she couldn’t stop smiling! Her joy was so evident all throughout the afternoon.

Before the bridal party was introduced, we snuck Brandon and Kathryn outside to take advantage of the fabulous afternoon light. I love how the soft, warm light frames them in these two portraits.

A note to the photographers reading: This was my first wedding shooting with my brand new Canon 40D. I literally pulled it out of the box before walking out the door to this wedding. Learning to cruise through the menus was a little awkward at first, but overall I really enjoyed my experience with it! I needed something fast to shoot the ceremony & reception with, and this little camera really does the job! This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

Jena & Bill { Atlanta, GA }

Kiss. Smile. Kiss. Smile. That’s how this entire session went! Jena can hardly look at Bill without smiling. Throw in some kisses, and her face just beams with happiness. These two met while studying at Georgia Tech (Go Jackets!) and will be getting married at the Hunter Museum of American Art in August. Jena and Bill, I had so much fun hanging out with you, and I can’t wait to celebrate your wedding with you!
