Here’s to 25

Today I turn 25. I am officially a quarter of a century old! It’s amazing to me how I can feel so old and so young all at the same time. I remember being in high school and thinking that 25 was such a perfect and glamorous age. Now that I’m here, I can tell you that it isn’t quite perfect or glamorous, but it’s definitely a time in life worth celebrating! I have never felt more confident, accomplished, or beautiful as a person than I do right now. I’ve abandoned a large part of the confusion, doubt and insecurity that plagued me in high school and college, and I’m living in the freedom of God’s grace. Don’t get me wrong – I still stumble, fall and fail on a regular basis, but I am less afraid of failing now than I have ever been. I’ve learned the importance of making and learning from my mistakes, and I’ve learned how necessary it is to have the courage to get up off the ground, dust myself off and resume the pursuit of my goals.

Today, I lift my glass in a toast to birthdays. Here’s to success and failure; to making mistakes and setting them right; to living, laughing and having the courage to love completely even when faced with disappointment and heartbreak; to new adventures and old friends; to new friends and making memories; to embracing the downhill tumble toward 30. I pray that I find as much to celebrate in the next 25 years as I’ve found in the last. Cheers!

Married! Tom & Tiffany : Destin, FL

When a young woman walks into her home and finds a stranger on her couch, your first thought usually isn’t, “They’ll probably fall in love.” Well, unless you’re talking about a romantic comedy of some sort. But that was the case with Tom and Tiffany. Tom, who is from London, was exploring the US and needed a place to crash for a few days. He connected with Tiffany through a series of mutual friends, and she invited him to stay with her while he was traveling through her area. She never imagined when she came home from the grocery store that day that she’d be meeting her future husband.

As they sat and talked that night, they discovered that they have a shared passion for literature and travel. They both studied literature in college, and they have a passion for seeing the world. Tom left sooner than either of them wanted, but a few weeks later called Tiffany to see if she’d be interested in joining in his travels for a week or so. She happily agreed, and they fell in love as they explored the North East US together. Their relationship has been full of adventure ever since.

They chose Destin as their wedding location because Tiffany’s family owns a condo on the beach, and they set their wedding date for 3 weeks later. Their wedding was intimate – less than 15 guests – beautiful, and a perfect. I am falling in love with small weddings, mostly because they connect me with incredible couples like Tom and Tiffany. I hope you enjoy their photos as much as I do!

Engaged! Brian & Erin – Piedmont Park

Fall is such a beautiful time in Atlanta! The cool air and bright colors make it a perfect time for snuggling together, which also makes it a perfect time for engagement sessions. Brian and Erin are a hard working pair from New Orleans. They were in town to visit their families for Thanksgiving, so we got together to capture these beautiful photos of them together. They’re getting married in April, and I can’t wait to be a part of their wedding!

Happy Thanksgiving! I can’t believe how far behind I am with my blogging. I have so many amazing sessions to share with you over the next few weeks! Marc and Mary were married a few weeks ago at the Inman Park Trolley Barn here in Atlanta, and their wedding was full of laughter, love and some incredible details. Enjoy!

Married! Greg & Logan : Devore House Wedding

When you know, you know. It’s a rather enigmatic statement that is repeated over and over again to couples considering marriage. It sounds a little crazy, but to anyone who has found their perfect partner, it makes complete sense. You can analyze and discuss your relationships until it makes your head hurt, but the truth is that there is a sweetness in your soul that comes alive when you’ve found the one. And if anyone knows this, it’s Greg. A few years ago, as his birthday approached, he couldn’t help shake the feeling that maybe the girl he was dating just wasn’t right for him. He couldn’t quite put his finger on what their relationship was missing… until he met Logan. He had an electric attraction to and an easy companionship with her that he had never known before, and he knew she was made for him. Logan took a little while longer to persuade, but eventually she, too, recognized that she had stumbled into a love that was meant to be. They were married last Saturday, and I feel so blessed to have been a part of their wedding.

I love celebrating all sorts of weddings. Big, small, full of details, full of love, full of family and friends and full of quiet moments – I love being a part of every wedding that I get to document. The longer I shoot weddings, though, the more I fall in love with simple, intimate ceremonies and relaxed receptions where the bride and groom actually get to see each other, spend time together and greet all of their guests. There’s something so special about these weddings, and Jan and Michelle’s wedding was a beautiful example of a perfectly intimate wedding. They just love each other, and it’s written all over their faces.

Confession time: I LOVE these photos. LOVE them! It’s taken me a while to share these because there are so many to share, but your wait is over! Karen is a dear sorority sister of mine, and I was so overjoyed to be part of her wedding. She and JT were married in one of the historic chapels on the Berry College campus, and they could not have asked for a more perfect day.

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you know that I often gush about how much I adore my gorgeous brides and my handsome grooms, and I always talk about how cute my couples are. And let’s face it – I photograph some REALLY beautiful couples – but every once and a while I have the pleasure of photographing two people whose hearts are so beautiful I look at their images and I see more than just what they look like. I see their passion to serve God and to serve others. I see how much light they bring into the lives of the people around them. I see the strength of their families and the determination that they have to build a home that honors their Savior. And I truly believe that I am the one who was blessed to be a part of their wedding. This is one of those couples. Matt and Patti are very different people, but they serve the Lord together with equal joy, and documenting their love reminded me what I love so much about weddings.

So to Matt and Patti, thank you. I hope these images bring as much joy to your hearts as they bring to mine. Thank you for being such great friends.

Married! Andrew & Stephanie : Dunwoody Country Club

Their love began on the open sea, which is really just a semi-poetic way to say that Stephanie and Andrew met on boat! Steph had planned to spend her spring break laying lazily in the sun with her gal pals. She never imagined that she would end up meeting her future husband through a mutual friend. As it turns out, both Steph and Andrew were students at Georgia Tech, but it took them cruising across the Caribbean to finally meet one another. When their time spent soaking up the sun was done, they returned to campus with their eyes on each other, neither knowing that the other was interested in being more than friends. As it turns out, what began as a random meeting turned into a strong relationship, and I was invited to celebrate with their families and document the first day of their marriage.

I’m going to begin by showing off their fabulous details. Steph and her bridesmaids got ready at her mom’s house, which was a beautiful backdrop to photograph her wedding dress with.

Pat Doyle of MG Floral Designs did a fantastic job with the floral arrangements! I loved the color palette of Steph’s bouquet.

Steph looked radiant as her mom helped her into her dress.

Hello gorgeous!

As soon as I peeked into the bathroom, I was in love with this antique looking tub. Classy!

Steph and all of her lovely bridesmaids had their hair and make up done by the team at Brushworx. They did such an incredible job! Seriously, don’t all of these ladies look flawless?

Andrew and Steph were lucky enough to have my good friend Anne as their second shooter for the day. She grabbed all of the photographs of the guys while I was hanging out with the girls.

The temperature outside was in the upper 90s on Saturday, so Steph chose to have most of her photos taken inside. I usually do my best to always shoot outside on wedding days, but I never back down from a challenge! I thought this wall in the church provided such a cool backdrop for Steph’s bridal portraits.

Apparently great minds think alike, because Anne grabbed a few photos of Andrew there as well! These would look great in an album together.

The ceremony was held at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody. Steph looks so happy in this shot!

I have several simpler shots of Andrew watching Steph walk down the aisle, but I think the emotion in this one comes through so clearly since her veil hides one side of his face. He looks mesmerized!

After the ceremony, we headed down the Dunwoody Country Club for the reception. This hallway provided a beautiful (and air conditioned) location for their portraits together.

This is why I love having a second shooter along at weddings. While I was grabbing the above shot, Anne was grabbing this one.

Riding away in the Rambling Wreck is a tradition in Andrew’s family, so of course their wedding wouldn’t be complete without a few photos with it!

I love brides like Steph because they make me feel a million times funnier than I actually am. Haha!

Karol Sherling of Divalicious Delights provided Andrew and Stephanie with their welcome gifts for out of town guests, their thank you cookies and, of course, their cake. I love her designs,but even more than that I love the FLAVOR of her cakes! Oh man, you have not truly enjoyed wedding cake until you’ve tasted Karol’s cakes. They’re delicious!

Yet again, MG Florals did a beautiful job with the reception arrangements.

Anne grabbed the next two photos, which I’m completely in love with!

I also love this shot I grabbed of Steph’s mom during the toasts. You can see where she gets her incredible smile!

Once the cakes had been cut, dinner had been served and Steph and Andrew had a chance to greet most of their guests, we sneaked outside for a few more portraits. You know how I love shooting outside at sunset, and I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to shoot in this dreamy light.

Andrew and Steph left their reception in style, covered by bubbles and serenaded with shouts of “Go Jackets” and an impassioned rendition of Ramblin’ Wreck from Georgia Tech.

They participated in the last cheer of the night: “Fight! Win! Drink! GET NAKED!!”

Steph and Andrew, I feel truly blessed to have been part of your wedding day. I wish you lots of joy and laughter in your adventures together, and I look forward to seeing you again!
