Sunday night I drove up to Berry College to photograph these two lovely ladies: Emma and Chelsea. Emma is my best friend and maid of honor, and she and Chelsea are busy preparing for their senior show. It will be a fun, quirky variety show, and they asked me to come take some promotional shots for them. I love the vintage, burlesque style of these shots. We had SO much fun wandering around campus getting these!

They are great at making straight faces, just not at each other. It took FOREVER to get the shot on the left, because every time we tried it ended up like the shot on the right

GAH! Chelsea and Emma, you are both stunners. Way to OWN it!

A few weeks ago one of my good friends called me with some exciting news – she and her husband are having a baby! After chatting for a while about mommy and baby things, she told me that she was due around the time she was supposed to be shooting a wedding, and she asked if I would be willing to shoot it for her. Of course I jumped on the chance to help my friend, so she put me in touch with Kevin and Lauren. Hello, could I have asked for a cuter couple? No, I don’t think so. They’re adorable! I sat down for coffee with these two last week, and our quick meet and greet turned into a three hour long conversation. They’re wonderful, and I’m so excited that I get to be a part of their wedding!

These make me smile!

I don’t remember what was said here, but apparently it was quite funny.

Tulips

Beautiful, aren’t they? I love tulips. There’s something about them that makes my spirit brighter. They are soft and feminine, elegant and simple. After having been attacked by Atlanta’s crazy winter weather over the last few weeks, they are a welcome promise of the coming spring. Somehow they remind me to be thankful and take pleasure in the simple things in life. My days have been full of simple pleasures lately, and I wanted to take a moment to share a few of them with you.

Meet my Sunday school class. These are just a few of the wonderful young ladies that I get to spend my Sunday mornings with. They live with passion, giving all of themselves to everything they do. They may never know how much courage they inspire in me, and I am so thankful. I love you ladies!

This is Jessica. She is one of my closest friends, and she’s having a baby. I am not much of a kid person, but for some reason I find myself in love with Jessica’s baby girl. I am mystified by the idea that there is a little person coming to life in my best friend’s belly, and I am so excited to meet her. Jessica was at my shower Saturday, and I got to feel little Elisha in her belly for the first time. I almost cried. I’m turning into such a sap

These two lovely ladies are Elise and Ashley. I met Ashley in fifth grade, and we have been close friends ever since. We became fast friends with Elise in middle school, and from then on we were the three musketeers. Together we could do anything. We managed to get our drivers licenses, navigate through the dangers of teenage dating and learn what it means to be children of God. On Saturday, the three of us got together for the first time in over two years. So much has changed since then, and yet we still manage to pretend as though no time has passed. It’s amazing!

And last but most certainly not least, say hello again to my wonderful bestie and maid of honor Emma. This girl is a true treasure. She called me at 11:58pm tonight so that she could be the last person I talk to as a 22 year old and the first person I talk to as a 23 year old. She has celebrated more birthdays with me than anyone other than my family, and I believe I am a better person for it. Thank you my lovely friend for being the best friend and the best maid of honor I could ever ask for. You make my life brighter!

Meet Liz : 2010 Senior

I normally don’t photograph seniors, but when your best friend’s little sister is graduating and asks you to shoot her senior portraits, how do you say no? Especially when she’s as absolutely stunning as Liz. I had an amazing time trudging through the cold to help her commemorate this exciting time in her life! Isn’t she drop dead gorgeous? If she was taller, I totally think she would be top model material.

I love my job. LOVE it! I have the opportunity to express my creativity and work with clients who inspire and encourage me. I get to travel to exotic places, and I get to see my work featured in print. God has been to good to me this year, and I couldn’t be more thankful to Him for all that He has done in and through me. The following are pages from I Do for Brides magazine’s Fall 2009 issue which features a collection of my images. The first spread is a cake feature which includes images from several weddings I shot in 2008 and 2009, including Edoardo and Christy, Jonathan and Lora, Chris and Danielle, Tj and Libby, Eric and Shannon, Ed and Amanda, Michael and Elizabeth, Matt and Lisa, Shane and Emily, and Ian and Jenna.

The second spread is a feature on the Governor’s House, where I photographed Amy and Gino’s wedding last summer.

2009 was quite an adventure, and I couldn’t be more excited to see what 2010 holds!

Dreaming of what 2010 can be

I dream of simple things.

Holding my love’s hand as we confidently promise to love and to cherish.

Pulling him close as we share our first dance.

Laughing as I step all over his feet (I’m not a good dancing partner.)

Feeling the wind brush through my hair from the deck of a cruise ship.

Peering through the glassy water of the ocean and wondering how it got so clear and blue.

Unpacking way too many boxes as we settle in to our first apartment.

Filling our home with the lovely scent of garden roses, tulips and peonies.

Pretending to be Martha Stewart as I busy myself in the kitchen.

Laughing with Robert as we dial the number for Domino’s pizza (Apparently, wearing a cute apron does not make me Martha Stewart)

Snuggling on the couch as we decide whether to watch Pawn Stars or LOST.

Opening my heart to my Sunday School class as we excitedly dig through God’s word.

Relying on the Holy Spirit to change my heart and direct my path.

I know life isn’t all sweet moments and cute stories, but I also know that my days look brighter when I choose to celebrate the small and beautiful moments in life. It keeps me smiling.

Quick! Quick! Someone pinch me. Am I dreaming? NOPE! Those are my images IN PRINT! Woohoo! OK, give me a moment to regain my professional composure… Alright, I’m ready to behave like an adult. I just can’t help it. I’m so excited to share this news with all of you! In January 2009 I laid out a set of goals that I wanted to achieve this year, and I am so thankful that the Lord chose to bring this goal to life. Both of these images are from Kevin and Christine’s wedding that I shot in June of this year. Thanks to Christine for providing the scans!

Saying Goodbye to 2009

This year has been such an incredible adventure! I graduated from college, photographed weddings in Mexico, Canada and all over the Southeast, I was published for the first time (pictures coming soon), and I got to work with some of the most AMAZING clients the wedding world has ever seen. I feel so blessed to have such a great job, and I’m so thankful to all of my clients for helping me live my dream.

Speaking of living the dream, my 2009 wedding season has come to a close, and the next wedding I’ll have pictures to post from will be MINE! I’m getting married in March, and my 2010 season doesn’t start until April, so you’ll be seeing a lot of personal posts here for the next few months. I’m excited to spend this time finding new inspiration for my business, connecting with new clients, and OF COURSE starting a new life with my beloved soon-to-be husband. Thank you for coming on this journey with me. I look forward to seeing what God has in store for the future! Until then, here are a few of my favorite photos from the last year.

My Last First Kiss

Christmas day had come and gone, and I found myself where I often ended up at bed time: snuggled with a blanket on my best friend’s futon. Patti and I were like sisters, and I spent about half of my life at her house when I was in high school and early college. I had celebrated Christmas with my real family that morning, and Robert had joined me in celebrating with Patti’s family that night. He had left a little while earlier, and Patti and I were getting ready for bed when I received a phone call. It was Robert asking me to come outside. But it’s dark, and it’s cold, I thought to myself. Why would I want to go outside. “Just come out here,” he said, so I jumped off the futon and raced downstairs to meet him at the door.

After we spent a few minutes chatting about nothing in particular, he told me that he was so thankful that I was a part of his life, and that he had really enjoyed the four months that we had spent together. I tried to focus on the rest of his words, but my mind was going all over the place. I’ve never really been comfortable with receiving compliments or being romantic, so my I’m-more-sour-than-sweet gene kicked in and I blurted out, “Am I going to get a Christmas kiss or what?” He smiled at me in a way that only a man who loves a crazy woman can smile and said, “Yeah, you are.” I stood up on my tip toes, and Robert and I shared our first kiss.

We often look back on the moment and laugh, because it is such an “us” moment. Robert was trying to be sweet while I was busy trying to kill the butterflies that were fluttering in my stomach, because romance just made me feel awkward and uncomfortable. It took me a long time to get used to the idea that romance could be a beautiful part of our love relationship. Years later, I still have times when I ruin sweet moments and say the wrong things, but that’s just part of who I am. Luckily, I am loved by a man who doesn’t mind that I’m a little awkward and a little crazy. In fact, he loves these things about me, because they make me who I am. We are best friends. Buddies. Two peas in a pod. I am his beautiful sweetheart, and he is my love. I shared my last first kiss with him, and I look forward to sharing many more as we grow together for a lifetime.

Introducing the One, the Only, the OH SO FABULOUS Anne Almasy

From the day Robert and I got engaged, people have been asking me over and over again, “Who will photograph your wedding?” For a while, I responded with a smile and a light hearted, “Who knows!” because I hadn’t signed a contract or made a final decision. Ask anyone who really knew me, though, and they would tell you that my mind had been made up before Robert and I had even started dating. Over three years ago, I stumbled across the work of the ever so fabulous Anne Almasy. I immediately fell in love with her style and I knew that we just HAD to be friends! It took me a while to actually connect with her because I was really nervous to email someone I admired so much out of the blue, but from the first time we got together I knew that I wanted her to photograph my wedding.

Fast forward to August 2009. Robert and I had just got engaged, and I dove head first into the wedding planning process. In the four years since I shot my first wedding, I’ve become friends with some really talented, incredible photographers. Their friendship encourages me and their work inspires me, and I knew it was going to be difficult to select just one person to shoulder the responsibility of preserving my memories for me. I talked to friends from all over the country and did my best to remain objective in finding the right fit for Robert and I. I knew a few things for sure:

I wanted someone who had a consistent style that I loved and connected with.
I wanted someone I enjoyed spending time with.
I wanted to be able to relax on my wedding day, trusting that my photographer would rock out our wedding photos.

Of course cost was also a consideration, but I decided that having a photographer that I absolutely loved was worth investing in. Like I said, I talked to several different people, but my heart still kept running back to Anne. I was excited to share my planning process with her. I was excited for Robert to meet her. I knew I would have her at my wedding whether she photographed it or not, and finally I stopped weighing options and I just went with my heart.

With Anne’s permission, I’m sharing some of the Almasy’s recent work with all of you. I love the warm, timeless emotion that she is able to capture.

I’m in love with pretty much every photo from this shoot, but I thought I’d just post a few of my absolute favorites!
