On the other side { Atlanta, GA }

January 23rd, 2008  |  Everyday Life Newsflash

I did something yesterday that I haven’t done in ages. I had my picture taken! You might find this hard to believe, but I haven’t had a portrait session since I was a senior in high school, and even then all I had taken was my cap & gown picture. The primary reason for this is that I have been too busy or distracted by other things to make time for it. Since my next wedding isn’t until March (Hello vacation time!) and I am not yet swamped trying to study for my classes, I decided it was time to see what it’s like on the other side of the camera. I didn’t have to think twice about who I wanted to photograph me. I have admired the work of Dan and Anne Almasy for a little over a year, so my choice was obvious. In addition to loving their style, I’ve really wanted to meet them, so yesterday I headed to their studio loft for my little adventure. Anne and I really hit it off, and we spent more time laughing, talking and sipping hot chocolate than we did actually taking pictures. Here are my favorites from the session:

This is what happens when you ask me to make a serious face. I might be able to manage for a few seconds, but then I start laughing. I think my face is just programmed to smile!

Emma Katherine It's nice to see a different side of Lauren: the side without the camera in front of her face. :-D You are gooorgeous, dahling, and I do love thee entirely!

Crystal Hey Pretty Girl, What happened to you that Thursday? Did you go on your trip? I kind of forgot about the trade. A friend of the family was in an car accident, and he got killed. So, I lost track of time. I love your new pics. I hope you are doing okay.

Anne Almasy Hey chica! Thanks for the link! :) It was SO fun meeting you! I'm looking forward to getting our lunch scheduled!

Melanie You are so beautiful! I love that one of you laughing. It's so genuine, and I feel like I can actually hear your laugh when I look at it, which, of course, makes ME smile! :]

shawnreeder Wow Lauren. You are truly beautiful. I don't even know you but your warm energy shines through.

Scarlett Lillian Great headshots!!

Armin Love the B&W shots!! - Armin (OSP'er)

Let it snow! { Atlanta, GA }

January 16th, 2008  |  Everyday Life

Yes, that’s right. It’s SNOWING in Atlanta, Georgia. I am so excited I can hardly stand it. I ran outside and danced around, and when my sisters joined me I grabbed a few shots of everyone together.

I will have more pictures to post soon. The snowfall got better and better as the afternoon went on, so I’ll hopefully have some more pictures to prove it’s REALLY snowing!

Making new friends { Santa Barbara, CA }

January 8th, 2008  |  Everyday Life

Wow, I can’t remember the last time I had such a busy week. The first week of classes is always hectic, but this week has been especially crazy. Between catching up with friends, attending meetings, going to class and doing homework, I’ve scarcely had time to breathe, let alone blog. Luckily, when I logged in tonight I realized that I forgot to share images from my last and most exciting day on my trip to California! So while I’m taking some time to get myself organized and reflect on my goals for this year, you can enjoy these pictures from my afternoon in Santa Barbara, California.

This adventure was hand picked by me! When Kyleen asked me if there were any places that I really wanted to visit while out for my second visit, my mind immediately went to Santa Barbara because so many of the photographers that I admire live and work there. After taking recommendations from several people, Kyleen and I made reservations at Brophy Brothers seafood. I couldn’t have chosen a better place to eat! I couldn’t have chosen better company, either, because we were joined by Jonilyn and Chris and Katie Humphreys. Unfortunately none of us thought to take a picture while we were together, but I took several while Kyleen and I were wandering around the harbor, so I do have a few to share.
